Kim Raver is celebrating National Women's Health and Fitness Day – in her swimsuit. In a new post the Grey's Anatomy star shows off her incredible body in a bathing suit while stressing the importance of exercise. "You all know how important I think it is to move my body so I'm passing along a little journey of my own in the hopes that maybe it will resonate with you and encourage you to begin or continue your own health journey," she captioned the post, revealing one of her new favorite workouts. How does the star approach health and wellness and what is the latest workout she is obsessed with? Celebwell has all the answers.
Kim doesn't look at numbers. "I really love the idea of food for health. I don't think in terms of calories. When you're eating well you sleep better and your skin looks better. I know when I sit in the hair-and-makeup chair and I haven't drunk enough water," she told WebMD.
"My go-to weeknight dinner is grilled chicken breast or salmon with string beans and salad. I might put in quinoa or brown rice depending on how much cardio I've done. If I'm working on set, I might grab [everything] at Whole Foods and put it together myself," she told WebMD.
Kim "always" has coffee in her pantry. "Coffee is an absolute must. I would probably take that before I would take makeup with me somewhere! My one ahhh moment is coffee and dark chocolate," she told WebMD. According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are several benefits of drinking coffee in moderation. "It acts on your brain to improve memory, mood, reaction times, and mental function," they say, citing a study finding that caffeine can improve endurance and performance during exercise. It is also antioxidant-rich, can ward off diabetes, prevent neurologic disease, lower cancer risk, and ward off depression, they point out.
"I put my running sneakers in my bag everywhere I go," Raver, who has done a half-marathon, told Self. "If I see them there and I put them on, then I gotta do it. It's my no-excuse way. For me, it's really just about having my time to have solitude and disconnect."
"When I'm in L.A. and New York, I'm addicted to 'SoulCycle.' It's a good combination of [indoor cycling] with a little bit of soul and a lot of workout. You walk out of there dripping wet — it's awesome," Kim added to WebMD about one of her other favorite workouts.df44d9eab23ea271ddde7545ae2c09ec
Kim also loves to strike a pose. "Yoga combines it all. It gives me some downtime. It gives me a workout. It gives me my own mental space, where there is no BlackBerry, no phone, no fax, no work, no one needing anything from me. One of the biggest challenges of being a working mom is that there's constantly a pull. With yoga I feel like it's a great time for me," she told Women's Health.
In her new post, Kim revealed that she has taken up a new athletic habit. "This summer, I set a goal for myself to become a more athletic swimmer so I feel more confident diving into the ocean off the back of the boat when I'm sailing with Manu. I've heard that it takes 21 days for a practice to become a habit, so I've committed to swimming for ten minutes or more every single day for 21 days," she wrote. "Some days I loved jumping in the pool and some days I entered hating it because it was late…and I was tired…and the pool felt freezing! But as I swam across the pool I kept telling myself "find the thing I love at this moment," and I know it's cheesy to say, but every single time I got out of the pool I felt better!! I'm on day 23 day of my swimming challenge and feel myself getting stronger every day. I have found something that makes me happy, and I hope you find something physical you love to do and make a commitment to your health and fitness today."
